October being Dyslexia awareness month, KCCL is organizing a month long activities for raising awareness on Dyslexia under the Go Red for Dyslexia Awareness Campaign. This will entail activities revolving around the campaign including; bake it red, wear it red, art it red and craft it red. This year’s campaign theme is “Uniquely You” so that to inspire people to view learning disabilities through the lens of an individual’s empowerment. Why the color red? Because people with dyslexia resent color red as they associate it with their mistakes and disapproval (remember a teacher’s red pen markings in the book?). Well, we thought it is time to change the narrative and take back the feelings of shame and low self-esteem experienced by so many dyslexic learners in school. We can shout it louder and show every child in school is a unique individual and can thrive in an enabling environment!
